| TEACHING NOTES |
| 1 Before beginning level 41 and 42, learners may need to be reminded of the difference between long and short vowel sounds. The activities should follow lessons on doubling to retain short vowel sounds, and dropping 'magic e' in words with long vowels before adding a suffix beginning with a vowel. |
2 In Levels 43-45, learners should learn that -shun at the end of a word is never spelt as it sounds. With the exception of the words fashion and cushion, it is spelt in one of the ways practised here. For anyone learning French, Italian or Spanish, it is very useful to know that these words have a similar form in the foreign language: conversation = conversation(fr), conversazione(it), conversación(sp) |
